M+ ESL/M.Ed. University District Partnership Program (M+ Program)
The M+ Program offers current employees of Canyons School District an opportunity to obtain an ESL Endorsement fully subsidized by the district through the University of Utah. The M+ Program mission is to provide an education that helps K-12 teachers and related personnel construct a better understanding of patterns of educational inequality while countering them by creating environments and pedagogies where culturally and linguistically diverse students and their families thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Applications are accepted in Spring each year. Applicants choose one of two available tracks:
1) ESL-Only Track: to obtain an ESL Endorsement in 12-months fully subsidized by the district.
2) M.Ed. Track: to complete an ESL endorsement while also completing a Master's in Education (M.Ed.) degree in the U's ECS department, emphasizing ESL, partially subsidized by the district.
To obtain the initial M+ Program online application (approximately Feb. 15th), find out about scheduled M+ Program Information Meetings, or ask general questions about the application and admission process, contact Beverly Herrmann or Dr. Verónica E. Valdez.
To pursue the M+ MED track partially subsidized by the district, contact Dr. Valdez to obtain specifics about applying for the University of Utah's M.Ed., how M+ ESL endorsement coursework can be applied to this degree, and the schedule and cost of this 18-month degree program.
